Water Fasting Before A Big Date

If you are trying to lose weight before a big date you might try water fasting. I tis not a permanent solution to weight loss but it can help you fit into that dress you want to wear at the last minute. Water fasting is not quite the same as taking all those toxic teas that can cause dehydration symptoms like dizziness, nausea, headache and stomach cramps. If you do water fasting properlty these things do not become a problem.

There are two big precautions that you should take before water fasting –

1. Do not fast on water alone as an all water fast release toxins too quickly causing headaches.

2. If water fasting is more than three days do it only under the supervision of a physician

3. To prepare for a fast eat only raw vegetables and fruits for two days prior to starting it. This will make the fast itself less of a shock to the system.

While on the fast consume at least eight ounce glasses of steam distilled water a day plus pure juices and up to tow cups of herbal tea a day. Dilute all juices with the water adding about 1 part water to three parts juice. Do not drink orange or tomato juice and avoid all juices made with sweeteners and other additives.

The best juice to use for a fast is the juice of one lemon to a cup of warm water. Fresh apple, beet, cabbage, carrot, celery and grape juices are also good as our “green drinks” made fresh or from a commercial powder.

If you are having problems with ulcers and your colon then try adding raw cabbage juice to the equation.

Herbal teas can be consumed once or twice a day while water fasting. These include Alfalfa, burdock, chamomile, dandelion, milk thistle, red clover and rose hips that cleanse the bloodstream and support the liver.

If you must have something to eat during the fast a piece of watermelon is permitted. You can also eat fresh applesauce that has been made in a food processor.

During the fast it is very common to experience a wide variety of symptoms as toxins are released from your body including fatigue, body odor, dry scaly skin, skin eruptions, headaches, dizziness, irritability, anxiety, confusion, nausea, coughing, diarrhea, dark urine, dark foul smelling stools, body aches, insomnia, sinus discharge and visual or hearing problems. If

Follow up the juice water and tea fast with a two-day diet of raw fruits and vegetables. This is because the desired effect could be ruined if you eat cooked foods right after the fast.

You can also take two capsules of garlic a day to promote healing in the colon, strengthen the blood and also get rid of parasites. Many people eliminate all sorts of parasites when they go on a fast.

Also be sure to take a fiber supplement on a daily basis before and after your fast but not during your fast.

Is It Water Loss or Weight Loss?

It’s January so it is time to be concerned about weight loss because you have to look all slim and beautiful for that date. The thing is most of the products sold online is that they do not help you lose fat. They only cause you to lose water. The loss is temporary and doesn’t include any fat. Diuretics can promote dangerous dehydration and cardiac problems. As soon as the body is dehydrated, the weight returns. Meaningful weight loss requires loss of body fat not water.

One sure way to tell that you are dealing with a weight loss product that is a diuretic is if it makes outrageous promises, such as “Lose Ten Pounds a Week” or “Lose Ten Pounds in Three Days.” This is only possible if you are going to lose water weight.

You can also figure out what products are diuretics by looking at the ingredients, which according to the FDA must be listed from the most to the least. One of the biggest culprits is caffeine. Caffeine may be listed on the box as a main ingredient or it may be concealed in an ingredient such as green tea.

Most magical weight loss formulas (and especially those that are marketed as Chinese or miracle weight loss teas) contain herbs that act as diuretics. There is no such thing as a “fat burning herb” only herbs and botanicals that cause an increase in heart rate, breathing and other functions. This is not “fat burning” it is simply stress for the body that may trigger it to burn more calories.

Here is a breakdown of some of the most common herbs that are described as fat burning or weight loss miracles but that are actually diuretics.

Bochum. This herb is native to South Africa and is a powerful diuretic. Its main side effect is dehydration and the symptoms that come with it such as dizziness and fatigue

Dandelion – One of the safest diuretics, dandelion contains two diuretic chemicals, eudesmanolides and germacranolides, as well as the mineral potassium, which helps to regulate water balance

Horse Chestnut. Horse Chestnut is an old remedy for individuals with blood pressure problems and for varicose veins. It is a powerful diuretic that should never be used more than a day or two. Its main side effect is dehydration.

Kola Nut – This is a powerful diuretic that is not to be trifled with. The side effects are excessive thirst, nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, frequent urination, urges to go on an empty bladder, over stimulation, mania and insomnia.

Uva Ursi. Uva Ursi is traditionally used to treat bladder infections by increasing urine output. Side effects include frequent urination, urges to go and dehydration.

The weight loss herb Hoodia is also classified as a diuretic. Drinking half your body weight in ounces a day of water will aid your metabolism in breaking down fat cells and flushing out toxins.

If you must take a diuretic, beware of carbonated sodas and caffeinated beverages; they may cause stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea or cause further dehydration while taking these kinds of weight loss supplement formulas.

Are Organic Hair Products for Real?

I am getting a little disappointed with the beauty industry again. Did you know that the word organic is practically meaningless? Just because an organic hair product is labeled as so doesn’t mean that it is an actual organic product. In fact the word organic is an adjective that is very misrepresented on all kinds of products.

Ever wonder why Clairol Herbal Essences sells you an “Organic Herbal Experience” rather than a label that say Organic Shampoo? It is because it is not an organic shampoo. Containing a few herbs is not enough. Every single company selling organic hair products on the market today including Lush, Aveda, Avalon and the Body Shop is marketing things falsely as organic. This is part of catering to the all-natural trend in hair care, which started with labeling products as “natural” when they aren’t as all. In fact the phrase “natural” is practically meaningless nowadays

Maybe you have heard of that organic cosmetic line called Nature’s Gate. Nature’s Gate uses such chemical compounds as olefin sulfonate and cocamidopropul, betain and sudsing and foaming agents in its line of Organics shampoos. Avalon Natural Products brand shower gels, shave creams and shampoos contain petroleum.

A lot of people are very upset about this type of mislabeling and believe that states and provinces in North America should do what California has done and pass a law that says the ingredients must be more than 70% organic for it to be allowed to label itself as so. I want the real thing, not just an experience that mimics it.

The reason it is taking so long for this type of legislation to go through is because legislators and manufactuers cannot arrive at a mutually agreeable definition of what organic is. For instance you might think that you are using an organic conditioner if you grab an avocado out of your refrigerator and mash it up and apply it to your hair. Contrary to popular belief this is not an organic hair product unless the avocado comes from an organic farm and has been certified as organic by the Food and Drug Administration. You are simply using a vegetable to wash your hair.

Yet another source of debate is the use of hydrosols in organic hair products. Many hair products say that they contain essential oils when really it is just water collected after the steaming of herbs. Also there is some question over whether or not a flower or essential oil can be called organic if it is not made on an organic farm.

Products that are truly organic are easily identified just through using them. For instance, a truly organic shampoo will not create lather as it lacks the chemicals and foaming agents that are put into most organic hair products that are marketed today. Organic hair products will also not smell very strong. This is because most organic hair products on the market today also have added scents that are not necessarily derived from any kind of wild or natural source.

Chocolate Surprise!

I just have to share this story, which happened to my friend Barbara Jane. She is single and in her twenties like me and her boss thought that her neighbour’s single son would make a great blind date for her. After all he was in University studying to be a dentist and was apparently just living in his mother’s basement still so he could save on intuition.

So on the urging of her boss, who meant so well, she meets this guy for an hour and a half lunch date. When she laid eyes on him she couldn’t believe her good fortune. He was good looking, witty, well dressed and seemed to have a great sense of humor. She immediately said yes when he offered to take her out on a date the next day that just happened to be Valentine’s Day.

The next day he shows up at her door and rings the bell. He is dressed up in a designer to die for suit and looks just like one of those handsome men in Details magazine. Furthermore he is holding out a dozen red roses, which are meant just for her.

My girlfriend Barbara Jane takes the flowers and just as she says she must put them in water he tells her to wait as there are even more presents for her. He then bends over and starts placing two more prettily wrapped boxes inside her front hall.

As there are so many presents she invites him, all the time saying “Oh you shouldn’t have!” and really meaning it to because it was a bit of Valentine’s Day overkill.

The first thing she does is uncork the bottle of champagne he has brought and pour them both a glass. She then opens the first present, which contains a nice pair of pink satin gloves that he says he found in a vintage store. She is really pleased about this as she did tell him that she loved these old style kid gloves the day before at lunch.

The second present was also pretty good. It was an entire bottle of Guerlain perfume. The good stuff and not just the eau de toilette and it was packaged in a limited edition bottle.

As she went to open the third present, which was a beautiful red foil heart shaped box he said, “I hope you are not one of those women who doesn’t like to eat things.”

Inside this box is “premium exotic chocolate.” When she opens the lid to the box of chocolates she was amazed to see that the box was filled with six quite big cream filled replicas of chocolate penises.

“Have one!” he says.

She didn’t know what do say and just stared in disbelief. She said she wasn’t hungry and went through with the rest of the date but needless to say after it was over had to tell her boss that this one wasn’t quite going to work out (without going into too much detail!)
